Two Days in Lyon

Wednesday and Thursday were spent in the city of Lyon. We travelled by train each day from Saint-Etienne, a ride of just under an hour.

We leave the station in Lyon...

And wal up Rue Victor Hugo. Lyon is very pedestrian friendly, with several major streets closed to traffic (except delivery vehicles.)

Place Bellecour is a big open square, with cafes, restaurants, shops, street performers, and the starting point for guided tours of the city.

The students and chaperones broke up into three groups for different tours. This one went across the River Soane, into the Old City of Lyon, up the hill of Fourviere and to the Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourviere.

Vieux Lyon: narrow cobblestone street, more cafes, little shops (many sweets and candies were bought).

The view from the Basilica.

Little dead-end alleyways brought us to enclosed courtyards...

And the tour ended with a sunny walk along the banks of the Soane.
